Fox61 Televises First Democratic Debate

On the evening of Monday March 1, 2010, Merrick joined Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and host Tom Condon for the first Democratic debate of the 2010 U.S. Senate race. The event, which was broadcast live, was sponsored by The Hartford Courant and WTIC Fox61, and hosted at the Lincoln Theater at the University of Hartford. Issues discussed included the economy, health care, and foreign policy.
Provided are links to illustrate the marked differences between the policy stances of Merrick and Mr. Blumenthal, which swiftly became clear - with Merrick calling for bold initiatives and decisive action to address our pressing social issues, and Attorney General Blumenthal reinforcing incrementalism and modest steps toward alleviating the struggles that face Connecticut citizens, our state, and nation.

On Sunday, January 24th, The Day published a profile piece about Merrick and his continued bid for the United States Senate. This front page feature article, written by Ted Mann and titled, He's a Man On a Mission: Merrick Alpert brushes off obstacles to getting senate nod, discusses Merrick's motivations for running, and his grassroots effort to make certain that a strong, progressive Democrat preserves Connecticut's senate seat come November.

Merrick Interviewed by Mystic River Press

On Thursday, January 21, 2010, The Mystic River Press published an article featuring Merrick titled, Senate hopeful Alpert turns up heat , written by Elizabeth Yerkes.

This article discusses Merrick's grassroots campaign for the U.S. Senate, his recent 117-mile walk across Connecticut in opposition to the Afghan war, and the ways in which the needs of Connecticut's local economies can be better met.

Merrick on the Evening News with NBC Channel 30

Merrick recently authored a memoir, titled Morning Sun, and the Barnes and Noble bookstore in Canton hosted a book-signing event on Saturday January 16th. WVIT (NBC) News Channel 30 caught up with Merrick during his visit to Canton to discuss his continued bid for the U.S. Senate seat - a brief interview that was aired on NBC’s evening news.

Tonight at a town hall meeting, a man asked, "If the same people remain in Congress, will things ever change?" And I answered, no: "If career politicians are the only people who are in Congress, nothing will ever change - because they will continue to pass legislation in exchange for campaign contributions from special interest groups." This is the essence of status-quo politics. And the only way to change the outcome is to change the representatives.
